Abstract

The aim of this paper is to identify and analyze how gender stereotypes are represented in the stories suitable for age groups A and B, published by the “Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults” in the 60s. The results of the research, show that men and boys are the main characters in these stories. The limited omniscient narrator, highlights the actions and mentality of men and boys, and in all the stories, the male narrative of "searching" is reproduced. In these stories, unlike men and boys, women and girls are removed from the narrative or are secondary characters. Also, in these stories, opposite roles are attributed to men and women, and the value of men is emphasized against the lack of value of women. By using these methods, these stories reproduce and instill gender stereotypes by attributing opposite gender roles to men and women and emphasizing the value of men against the worthlessness of women. these stories reproduce gender stereotypes and induced to the reader by attributing opposite gender roles to men and women and emphasizing the value of men against the worthlessness of women. As a result, these stories are effective in preparing young children to accept the structure of relationships between men and women as part of gender roles and, in turn, they reproduce, repeat and perpetuate forms of gender discrimination.
